What to expect: BK polyomavirus (BKPyV) remains a significant challenge after kidney transplantation and management must incorporate many different risk factors to assure both organ viability and patient safety. The international consensus guidelines on the management of BK polyomavirus in kidney transplantation have recently been updated and Camille N. Kotton and Nassim Kamar, the first and second authors on these updated guidelines, will highlight the key insights and practical approaches to diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment strategies, aiming to enhance patient outcomes and graft survival rates.
